OVERVIEW
Pentapeptide-18, commonly known as Leuphasyl, is a synthetic peptide used in cosmetic skincare formulations for its potential wrinkle-smoothing properties. It is composed of five amino acids designed to mimic the body’s natural enkephalins, which are involved in regulating muscle contraction. In topical applications, Leuphasyl is often described as a “relaxing peptide” because it may help reduce micro-muscle tension in facial expressions. By softening repetitive facial movements that contribute to expression lines, it is commonly included in anti-aging products targeting fine lines, particularly around the forehead and eye area.
At a 200mg concentration, Pentapeptide-18 is typically incorporated into serums, creams, or anti-wrinkle treatments for external use only. It is frequently combined with other peptides such as Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-8) to enhance its visible smoothing effects. With consistent application, users may notice a gradual improvement in skin texture and a reduction in the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. As a cosmetic ingredient, it works on the surface level and does not produce the same effects as injectable treatments. Leuphasyl is generally well tolerated in properly formulated products, but individuals with sensitive skin should perform a patch test before regular use. It is intended for aesthetic purposes rather than medical treatment.
